Time Changes, But Can We Change Our Times?

Times are tough and uncertain for a lot of people at the moment. Is this all bad, or is this a time when things are being shaken up? We are being forced to face the repetitive monotony that we’ve fallen into.

With so many unable to work due to the Coronavirus, it really brings out our fears and worries. Beyond concern for our lives, a lack of financial certainty is the probably biggest burden many of us face.

When our income dries up and our homes may be taken from us, we see how fragile our existence in society really is. It is tenuous, only because we continue to work and pay our bills we do not often have to face how tenuous this existence is.

For a long time I have felt that society and people need to return to a life that is slower and much, much closer to nature than the one in which we presently live. 24/7/365 is not healthy for us or the planet.

This isn’t a call to renounce civilisation and technology, but for society to make some drastic alterations in its priorities. This remains as true now as ever before, if not more so due to present circumstances.

A simpler life that does not rely on globalisation for us to purchase a cheap pen or a holiday momento (usually made in the country other than the one being visited) is a small step. And each small step taken would help to strengthen our way of life so that when pandemics arise we may be better prepared to weather the storm and its impact may be reduced.

It’s time to let the change bring a better change.
